DEMONETISATION: THE ILLEGAL TENDER

Featured

The question that has those ‘oppressed’,  by the recent ban on Rs.1000 & Rs.500 promissory notes excited, is basically – How far will this ‘Drive to Root Out Black Money’ go?

Two counter questions answer this eloquently –

1.  Hasn’t Narendra Modi  staked his entire political career & that of the BJP and it’s leaders by this move?

2. Can he roll it back?

The answers are obvious. Economy and commerce basically run on exchanges – from ‘Barter’ to ‘Promissory Notes’.

Are there any other  exchanges? – Yes many. As many as innovation and guile create! Both tangible and intangible.

Taking on any illegal tender is like taking on an entire system that runs at the very foundation of a country’s economy and commerce.

Reversals will result only in catastrophe for the initiator as well as for the country.

Hence, the recalling and declaring the two promissory notes illegal is only the start of a long drawn war that will need to be sustained with as much enthusiasm as it has begun.

Any roll back will raise fingers and the motives questioned, dropping the whole exercise into the usual banal allegations of graft & benefits to those close to power.

No political party that has come to power after 10 years and hopes to remain the tallest political entity, can afford to retreat from the Juggernaut that it has initiated without being destroyed itself.

The timing of the ‘Demonetisation Move’ itself gives a clear indication, that before the next elections in 2017 onwards, results of this demonetisation drive are to be used to convince the common man in the country about the intent of the BJP-NDA combined Government.

Obviously, other tenders such as Property, Land, Farming, Water, Every Industry, Bullion, Stock Exchange Burgeons & Shrivels, Hawala, Matka, Angadia, Cricket & other forms of Betting, Movies, Co-operative Banks and Lending Agencies, Media, Judiciary & Judgements and every other innovation to side step the tax-man and legal economy & commerce, will now have to be addressed, to convince the common man on the ground that the intent of the Government is good and to generate the ground swell that will assist the campaign against all forms of “Illegal Tender”, tangible or otherwise.

It is a long drawn overhaul of the system and cannot be rolled back by anyone except those who foolishly believe that they can still continue to ‘Fool’ the common people in the street and have misjudged their anger, helplessness and the power.

Any one standing against this move, can only have their motives & integrity (All that the common man really ascribes to a politician) questioned. The Bihar CM Mr.Nitish Kumar has shown that intellect and wisdom while other political parties are still counting their ill-be-gotten-soon-expiring-promissory-notes buying time and trying to be eloquent to their constituencies about their lost arguments.

This Juggernaut is just starting.

The sequencing, timing as well as the durations of each move will be interesting.

Discerning “Intangible Innovative Black Money Creation Methods” will in itself be a challenge and I’m sure the Government is working on it.

How clean are the conductors, will be an intense debate leaving no rooms for even oversights, leave alone being participatory in any illegal tender. In fact the opposition will be noting every move and their own investigations would have already started to target the Government and its drivers once they are out of power, which does not seem any closer at this point of time. The BJP-NDA would have warned its members about the unceremonious drop from grace and legality they will face in case they are caught out of tune of this steam-rolling barrage that has begun.

This is the most interesting story being followed across the Globe, across the divide of the tangible and the intangible illegal tenders. Every one is waiting to learn more about the positives and the negatives of this monumental sweep.

Yes, this is a fantastic story and is set to be a landmark in history!

NARENDRA MODI’S WAR ON CORRUPTION

[22/11, 07:35]
•When corruption becomes the medallion public choose, compete for & wear its illbegotten commodities with pride, the ‘have-not citizenry’ rues missed opportunities & those with a conscience watch in disgust & powerlessness of their virtues, then such a Society is depraved and is on a nosedive to the pits of sin, where the pressure of such ills threaten such a society’s breakup completely into serfdoms & financially dependent votebanks.

• India has reached such an impasse.

•Some bits of our Nation reached this distinction with the aroganance of the accompanied power, but a larger & vast majority achieved this incest with cunning, put on meekness, but surely intent on raping the society from within, like sullying one’s own family of its purity, innocence, as well as the trust of their respective scriptures, their future generations and elders; So deep in rapine of their societies are they, that they are even celebrating the illbegotten wealth from ‘contacts’ & ‘associations’ for ‘considerations’, that landed them in their opulence which, they are at pains to hide today, whilst singing along the populist tune & flavour of the day.

• Can this all really be “cleaned” as the popular sentiment suggests in the Nation today?

• Or is it just another “Jumla” by the powerful to rake in funds for themselves?

•Most ardent Prayers going up would suggest the latter!

• However the largest majority of the ‘have nots’ has already been rendered powerless with their responsibilities and the economy surrounding them.

• All they have, to reverse their destiny is this one opportunity, which if lost, all its tools and methods will be covered up and catered for by the corrupt in the future.

• Such conditions lead to a wide spread romanticism & hope on the ‘One’ initiating the change OR, senseless crime & violence, especially when the administration and Police forces have been compromised by the plundering exploiters for their own reasons for many years.

• Will the ‘One Man Deliverance’ be able to deliver against a such a heavy tide silted thickly with the hidden, meek accumulators, who are also the instruments the ‘Arbitrator’ has to use?

-How far will they pull him down?

-How will he shed them to gain momentum?

-Will this silent smiling, meek & cunning burgeoning bourgeois allow the change or find crevices to retain & redeem their ‘illbegotten status’?

•Answers to these questions will decide the levels of the squeaky cleansing being planned and achieved as this war on corruption proceeds.

• We are living in a story and each day, a new page turns…

• Hope for the best and support can add to the impetus, motivation and the desired outcome of this war on corruption.

• Join & support yourselves not just Narendra Modi, in this first complete war on corruption.

THE GREAT INDIAN DEMOCRACY: IT’S SOLDIERS, POLITICIANS & THE BUREAUCRACY

In political circles, it has become very fashionable to comment about the Defence Forces, particularly about the Indian Army, while addressing the Nation and we the bureaucracy cant have it better!

It is that holy cow which cannot kick-back and none can fault the politician for wanting to do some-thing for it, right or wrong, is immaterial!
The “Brigade of the Veterans” will ensure it remains in the public eye for a long time & until a better sound bite is conveyed to stir them into another round!
The bureaucracy may have to tip off the media though! And there is a fantastic going rate paid by competing media, for the tit bits, we can throw in hushed voices looking over the shoulder! Silencing of the ministers by the “Gujarat-nu-Sher”, has led more of these media wallas to our doorstep! These are good times for one to build a portfolio for that grandson, the Bahu is planning on, by just keeping our heads low, almost under a burqa of files; but you know, that stance has to be mastered. It should be just servile enough not to raise suspicion of the experienced minister and very servile for the first time minister or MP to believe he is the boss, until the time comes to redeem favours! It all  comes with experience, you know!

A parade by us would have the doctors of all hues scurrying for a chance to research our spines for the miracle they are – always bent and yet such a threat to the politician and everyone!
It is even better if you are an opposition politician. That way you can kill two birds with one stone.
Promise, to the Defence Forces all the hidden funds you know exist with the Government for squandering or pocketing, thus denying it from entering into the pockets of the half sleeved kurtas or “kamandals” of the Sadhu, Sadhvi MPs!
It also serves the “Prime Budding Future Ministers” well, to have people who have milked every holy cow in the Nation for 40 plus years around him or her!

Yes, it is great! In fact ‘great motivation’ to know how every penny is stuffed into the slush by a Government! It will take the present dispensation some time to decipher “our” hiding places in the files, NGOs, Committees, et all..
So, raise expectations of the Forces and then let loose the “Brigade of the Veterans” on the Government of the day, while we gain time to build in sufficient moles in the policy being formulated, to be beneficial to us bureaucrats personally, latter!
Brilliant!
After all these “Ram Rod Straight kinds” signed up to serve the Nation on their own and keep saying they are “Fighting for the honour of the country and not for the pay or pension”!
Well they asked for it, you know!
The very sight of these “blokes”, some of who, it seem have never returned home from the far flung unknown borders they take special pride in having saved, invokes astonishment and are a sure spectacle for the TV & nuisance for the uneducated dolt who managed maximum votes in the last election –  These motley horde wearing fancy long forgotten shapes of topis, hats & even turbans! Many wear faded three piece suits & ties, some bows and scarves too, silks and chiffons swish with the cottons and the khadi, some even with brocade and real flowers all under the open hot Sun, hoping that this parade will be seen as their determination to move powers that be?!! Their wonderful articulation of suppressed emotion and the passion of charging bulls not knowing the direction they must aim their aging stiff limbs and lock frayed horns on to, is certainly a weapon we bureaucrats can put to good use!
If we bureaucrats can keep the goal posts sufficiently dynamic with various new formulations each time these faujis came any where near a goal, or a red rag of a comment waved out at them whenever they seem to loose steam then, sufficient commotion will have been caused by these bandicoots who escaped the enemy at the borders, to keep the Government under pressure and all attention media focused on the streets of renewed promises for the next election, with the ‘genuine grievances’ of the soldiers who managed survive their stifled fates, serving as hope to those who will retire young enough from enemy cannons, to serve us and their Nation again, but now as electoral fodder.
The best is yet to come!
In fact even Narendra Bhaisahab will have been kept under pressure well enough for the rest of his tenure despite all his yoga, eating his own Hindutva cake with enough inexperienced ministers serving him foot in the mouth!
The half kurta clad Yogi, wouldn’t even know whether to distribute the ‘special extra hidden funds’ that “The Always Angry Jet Lee” thought he had well under wraps, to keep his ministries & allies happy or to allow these foggies their extra drop of single malt with their “pain pulsating elbows” held at 90 degrees until the last drop was sipped & wiped!
Well this just, had to be so.
You know, we bureaucrats too have suffered.

It was really time for the PMOs attention to be diverted enough from the biometric attendance machines & the numbers of files cleared. Our poor tired Chief Secretaries and down the file pushing hierarchy to the peon Ram Lala, had to again shut their eyes for the habitual siesta in the cool confines of the North, South Blocks of sandstone, the Parliament or even under the expansive lush green trees outside filtering the Sunlight just enough, come Summer or Winter, to sooth our pale skins & placid temperaments.
Meanwhile, the files containing futures of all politicians, as well as those soldiers dying or having escaped that fate and now seeking succour as old foggies, dragging their dignity around the ESM empanelled Hospitals, will be cleared depending on the ‘desires’ of the Ministers and how they cut the deck of goodies for all of us, all the way up from Ram Lala to the  alligator skinned, rimless glasses perched below dead pan calculating eyes of Mr. Chief Secretary, rubbing his fingers below his desk, out of an old habit, even while waiting for e-passbook updates of the promised cuts, to finish  their long journey from the dark to the white light of the screen observable honourablly by the World …
Yawn…
This democracy, it is tiring business!

RESPONSE TO HINDUSTAN TIMES EDITOR MR. VINOD SHARMA’S FACEBOOK POST ON SUICIDE MARTYRS, POLITICIANS & GEN VK SINGH

1.  I have read the comments on Mr. Vinod Sharma’s Facebook page and heard the news over the last two days. As an ex-Army Officer I would like to make the following points:

(a) Any soldier who commits suicide, irrespective of his reasons, is NOT honoured to send a clear message to others on the same circumstances, that it is only one who fights his circumstance or dies doing so is worthy of martyrdom & respect else he is a coward.

(b) This is the ethos that has kept our Army & soldiery  vibrant for the last 200+ years.

(c) This ethos has tremendous value to the organisational structure of all organisations, including Newspaper houses like HT and Armies of the World including ours, for command & control of the individual selves of its staffers, as well as the subunits and units, even under the severest conditions as POWs under torture, both mental and physical.

(d) This ethos has been struck down by some extremely petty politicians to give their own careers a boost by romanticising suicide.

(e) None of these IDIOTS (Meaning-Lacking sufficient intellect and knowledge) have known or taken time to know the basics of the Army ethos, leave alone ask questions.

(f) By calling this Subedar a martyr & promising 1-Cr to his kin these IDIOTS are hitting the very ethos and the quality of Indian Soldiering which is seeing very tough times due to the failure of the Indian Polity, IAS, IPS & regional administration in insurgency hit areas and other geographical challenging areas of deployment where leave is a problem and the pay and perks sent home are a problem.

(g)These IDIOTS are abetting suicides of soldiers, who are already working in circumstances of extremely tough combat situations at work & a lack of apathy, honour, pay & pension policies for their home and hearth, just because the JCO wrote his reasons to be OROP, which struck a chord with some political ambitions?

(h) All Armies have suicides. Developed Nations have more due to the difference in the std of living and greater expectations. Have you Mr. Vinod in your entire career as a journalist seen any suicide being romanced by any politician around the Globe? Please name one. There can be none.

(j) Now, Gen VK Singh. This gentleman is NOT a politician. At least not a glib one we are used to seeing on TV, like a Manish Tiwari, Prakash Jawdekar, Sitaram Ventury or Gaurav Bhatia, etc. In this case probably he spoke his heart out as a soldier. He definitely would have done well to shut up.

(k) The virulent media has further fermented the situation. What should we call press reporters, editors, chief editors, who have not done the necessary fact and wisdom checks, but have chosen to report the sensationalist at a very  superficial level alone, Mr. Vinod Sharma?

(l) Would correct organisational attitude to suicides and balance have made a better story, that could be better milked for business and better circulation or hits by clients, rather than twisting the nonsense perpetuated by IDIOTS  into Pro- Congress, BJP, AAP camp reporting and showing a very weak yellow underbelly?

2. It would be OK by me and 90% of other Indians who are fed up by these Politician-Media-Bureaucratic nonsense “ruling us” if the Government of the day is to bring in an ordinance to declare such actions as “Anti-National” and send any one how so ever high and mighty to jail for treason without as much as an apology or trial even if that means high-handedness, dictatorship or any other synonyms rather than break down our institutions and the Nation.

3. OROP, “Dilution or Ranks”, “Pay and Pensions” not withstanding, these IDIOTS have started hitting the very structure of the Indian Army, that other countries UK, France, Canada, Australia are celebrating in gratitude, for OUR Army’s contributions in WW-II, even today.

4. Indian Politicians in the last two days have proved and confirmed definitely that they DO NOT have ANY RESPECT OR LOVE for the Nation, the Geography nor the defenders of these two things that make India the country that it is.

5. All Indians MUST note this, read news between the lines and then alone make an opinion, to vote accordingly.

Vinod Sharma’s Reply:

I respect your right to your views. But most respectfully disagree with your defence of the General. By the way, how many chiefs around the world have moved courts over the issue that he did? And how many ex chiefs who became minister’s had their successor calling them conspirators and liars in an affidavit before the highest court. He has lost the right to be shown the deference that’s due to an ex chief. Moreover, if he isn’t a politician what the heck is he doing in the BJP? I often wonder what Gen Shewag must be doing when coming face to face with his senior, now a minister. Doesn’t this kind of edgy relationship not impact the morale of soldiers, dear Colonel Sharma. And what’s your take on scores of other retired generals doing TV time politicking in the name of our faujis? Is it a good trend in a democracy? Litigating, debating frothing at the mouth generals.

My Response:

Lets not shift goal posts, Mr. Vinod Sharma.

The issues of debate are –

1.”Gen VK Singh’s ill timed, I’ll placed comments to the Media about the suicide issue currently in news”.

2. “The Political Drama on the Suicide of the Subedar”

On the first –

I call a spade just that and will not defend the indefensible at all.

Gen VK Singh, I have already said and maintain, “…he should have just shut up…” and I stand by that. He was, as has been more than once, “foot in the mouth” when he misjudged the time and the sentiment unlike the hardened politicians I mentioned earlier. I shudder to think of the times to come when he will actually join the ranks of other hardened bigots.

However, you seem to want a clear position, so here it is, I have no political affiliations at all hence can see all politicians very clearly without any biases or qualms, Gen VK Singh is “bad as politicians go or come or are”, yet only a bit lesser, else you would not have caught him off balance so often.

The second issue –

The point I do make about the core issue of the debate that is, the drama after the suicide of the Subedar, I maintain what I have said, that the drama is the saddest page and a disservice to the Nation by the polity, beurocracy and the media. The whole issue has been twisted and presented wrong.

Now the other issues you have raised, I feel to side line the exposure.

– The present chief Gen Sehwag and the Gen VK Singh crossing paths. One is in uniform and I see him behaved as his duty and the Nation expects him to. He will I know be unmoving by any politician including Gen VK Singh, as far as his job is concerned, just as you and I will despite this.

Many have many opinions about him as I too do about him or you and vis-a-versa with all civilities. I feel he has a very tough job and can do without criticism unless he is directly involved in an inappropriate decision or behaviour after facts are analysed.

-Gen VK Singh’s courting of the courts – A sad and sordid drama India and the Indian Army could have done without.

– Impact of politics on soldiers morale –

The soldier is also as informed a person as any voter is. He is disgusted by all politicians including the”Foot in the Mouth” ones.

The crux of the matter that the Nation should know and you should highlight in the media is that HE STILL FIGHTS ON AND DOES HIS DUTY and that is because of the buddies and officers WITH HIM in the same circumstances, who have decided to fight on for their invaluable values, spirit and passions they share and NOT because of some utopian “Leaders” sitting in Delhi give a fearfully quivering or fancy bombastic speech from the Red Fort.

That Sir are the “ETHOS” the organisation Indian Army, has built within itself that is now being chipped away by knaves in such far too often incidents for Electorate/LS/RS politics & projected coloured in different hues by the media.

– The “Frothing Generals” on TV.

I do notice you have chosen more docile TV channels like the RS TV over the boiling cauldron!

But that Sir, is a compliment. I am a fan of that channel only because of the calm manner the debates are conducted and differences aired civilly enough to make comprehensive sense sans emotions.

However the “Frothing Generals” Are they not citizens enough to do exactly what they would want to even as you chose to move away from the froth, fury, emotion, sound and the churning?

‘I rest my case’!

On a more serious note beyond the competitive arguments, I have just one observation to make Mr. Vinod Sharma, we seem to have gone very wrong collectively in service of the Nation, of Ourselves and are breaking up even the institutions that have remained fairly above board and this Sir, is not lost on the intelligence agencies wanting to give us a “Thousand Cuts”. We have exposed yet another weak spot to such people, who in any case have come as close to us as in the JNU Campus, in the offices of MP and God knows where else.

 Vinod Sharma last reply :

I’ve said what I wanted to. The issue is the man’ s approach.
